Fully restored and available for events in the wardroom such as weddings, etc.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Naval history is here! We&#8217;ve toured the ancient (Roman ruins and HMS Mary Rose, of Henry VIII), the old (from 1680- Royal Marines) and the gunpowder magazines, workshops and facilities of Priddy&#8217;s Hard, through the ships of the Naval Dockyards of Portsmouth: HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, HMS M.33, and HMS Alliance. We&#8217;ve learned about the pivitol battle of Jutland in WW1, and the amazing efforts of all involved in the D-Day invasion of WW2.<\/p>\n<p>It has been an immersive lesson in military history.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4459b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1556\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4459b-300x146.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN4459b\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4459b-300x146.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4459b-768x374.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4459b-1024x499.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is lots else: Portsmouth city, and the ancient forts- now exclusive (and expensive) Napoleonic era forts in the Solent.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1561\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4490b.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1561\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1561 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4490b-300x142.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN4490b\" width=\"300\" height=\"142\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4490b-300x142.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4490b-768x364.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.mortimer.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSCN4490b-1024x485.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1561\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">HMS Diamond, a modern Missile destroyer that forms an important part of the modern Royal Navy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Gosport was the victualling (love that word!) center of the navy: providing food, supplies such as rope and cordage, and sails, for the ships of the navy.
